Alberni midget reps head to provincials

Port Alberni’s two midget rep hockey teams are headed to their respective provincial championships in March.

Midget Tier 3

Van Isle Ford Midget Bulldogs won their round robin placement games against Tri-Port  (6-5) and Juan de Fuca (8-1).

They then defeated Sooke T3  5–1 on Saturday, Feb. 16 to advance to the Island T3 championships.

Because the midget rep Bulldogs are hosting the B.C. championships they automatically get a berth in the provincials. Victoria, who the Bulldogs are facing in the three-game Island final, will also get a berth even if the Bulldogs win the Island title.

Victoria won their game against Tri-port 4–3 in double overtime, locking up the second spot.

Van Isle Ford Midget A Bulldogs won their game Saturday, Feb. 23 against Victoria 6–3 to take a one-game advantage in the best-of-three Island final.

Game two is this Saturday, March 2 in Victoria  with Game 3 back here in Port Alberni on Sunday, March 3, if necessary.

Midget Tier 4

The JAL Design/AAA Photography Midget B team won the Island Banner championship on Sunday, Feb. 24 in a two-game knockout of Juan de Fuca. First win was on Saturday, Feb 23, an 8-4 victory. They won the banner on Feb. 24 with a final score of 7-1.

The midget B team heads to their provincials in Lillooet, B.C.
