The Alberni Valley Bulldogs claimed the inaugural Mainroad Rivalry Series trophy over the Nanaimo Clippers with a dramatic come-from-behind 6-5 overtime win in Nanaimo last Wednesday afternoon.

The Bulldogs swept the series by winning the first four games of the season between the two long-time rivals.

Wednesday’s game featured an 11 a.m. start time as children from Nanaimo elementary schools made up the crowd. The Bulldogs might have felt like they overslept as they fell behind 2-0 in the second and chased the game for much of the afternoon.

It looked the Clippers might have put the game away in the third period as they took a 5-2 lead, but the Bulldogs staged a dramatic comeback over the game’s final 10 minutes to force overtime. Defenceman Braden Blace won it for the Bulldogs 6:50 into overtime with his second goal of the game.

After two more wins over the weekend, the Bulldogs have now won six games straight. Up next for the Bulldogs is a trip to Duncan on Friday night (Nov. 10) to take on the Caps, before returning home on Saturday night (Nov. 11) to host the Nanaimo Clippers. Puck drop is at 7 p.m. and tickets are available at the box office or online at www.albernivalleybulldogs.ca.
