Wrestling teams from Port Alberni’s elementary schools wrapped up their season with a tournament on Nov. 3 at Alberni District Secondary School.
The 2023 Pacific Rim Elementary Wrestling Tournament marked the end of a seven-week season for young, often first-time wrestlers.
Maquinna and École Alberni Elementary tied for top spot in team scoring, SD70 director of instruction James Messenger said.
“Every athlete who stepped onto the mat displayed incredible courage by putting themselves out there, and this is a testament to their development and determination,” Messenger wrote in a social media post about the tourney.
“We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the entire community of volunteers who tirelessly coached, sponsored and organized the entire season…It was heartwarming to witness our young ADSS wrestlers officiating matches, displaying their own brand of bravery.”
Messenger thanked staff, parents and alumni for contributing to the success of the event.
