Have you ever wondered if lawn bowling might be a good sport for you? Port Alberni’s Lawn Bowling Club will be offering four open houses this spring that will give residents a chance to give the sport a try.

Anyone can stop by to see what lawn bowling is about, talk to members of the club and try a game. Coaches will be on hand to give new players enough pointers to be able to throw a bowl. Because of their shape, lawn bowls do not roll straight. They curve much as a curling rock does—making strategy an important part of the game.

Lawn bowling is a sport that can be enjoyed by all ages and is played around the world. Port Alberni club members have competed provincially, nationally and even internationally.

The Port Alberni Lawn Bowling Club is located at 4255 Wallace Street, tucked away between Echo Centre and the rear of Alberni District Secondary School. It is accessible off of Wood Avenue.

The open houses are as follows:

- Wednesday, May 1 from 4-7 p.m.

- Saturday, May 4 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

- Saturday, May 11 from 1-3 p.m.

- Saturday, May 18 from 1-3 p.m.
