Now's a great time to look for a bargain on several 2014 models. Also: reviews of the 2015 Subaru Impreza and Ford's C-MAX.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year… to buy a car.

So says Bob McHugh on Driveway Canada this week, in his rundown of the best 2014 models you can bargain with this Christmas season.

“If price is more important than a specific colour and you can compromise on content, there are some good deals out there on brand new 2014 model year vehicles,” writes McHugh.

“While most automakers have had a successful sales year, it’s clear-out time on remaining 2014 models and the push is on to achieve or exceed those end-of-year sales goals.”

Included in Bob’s list are the 2014 Toyota Matrix, the Hyundai Elantra L, the Dodge Grand Caravan, the Kia Sedona, the Ford Flex, the Buick Encore, the Chevrolet Camaro, and the Hyundai Veloster Turbo.

Our car guy Zack Spencer reviews the 2015 Subaru Impreza, and takes it for a spin in the ice and snow in B.C.’s Okanagan.

“The 2015 Impreza is all about small changes to an already good car,” he says.

In order to highlight Subaru’s latest Impreza compact sedan and hatchback, Subaru needed a location that could show off the vehicle on dry roads and in winter conditions. The Okanagan was chosen for the wonderful twisting roads through wine country but also snow-on-demand at Big White Ski Resort and the setting was perfect.”

Good for you! But it’ll probably cost you, writes Driveway editor Keith Morgan in his review of Ford’s C-MAX.

“Whichever model you plump for from any of the leading hybrid manufacturers, you are going to pay a premium in the thousands over the equivalent standard gas-powered model. In pure economic terms, it will take years of fuel savings to bridge that investment gap.”
