Angel Rock on Highway 4 near Cameron Lake gives pause to even the most seasoned drivers. However, the 2025 version of Angel Rock has nothing on what drivers in 1948 experienced.

Back in 1948, according to this photo (PN15680) from the Alberni Valley Museum's archives, the highway was a gravel road, and Angel Rock overhung the road so far that trucks of the day had to be careful how tall their loads were. This particular photo depicts a caterpillar tractor approaching the rock.
