The Alberni Valley Bulldogs have teamed up with the Alberni Clayoquot Regional District to promote local recycling programs. The Bulldogs will help encourage residents and businesses to reduce, reuse and recycle.

Bulldogs captain Ryan Lough and teammates Lars Hepso, Tryg Strand, and Manny Gialedakis will be participating in the program. They will be discussing the “three Rs” during their Bulldogs in Schools program and will be initiating a number of 3Rs campaigns within the community.

“The Bulldogs bring to the program many great qualities,” says Andy Daniel, the regional district’s manager of environmental services.

“They are exceptional speakers and are seen as leaders by youth within the community. Ryan and his teammates have given some great suggestions; they are genuinely interested in the environment and making a difference within the community,” Daniel said.

Lough is excited about the program. “We will reach out to 25 different elementary school classrooms and talk to kids about what they do within their class and their home to make a difference.”

The team members will be working closely with the regional district’s environmental services coordinator, Janice Hill.

The regional district will support the players with necessary background information and training. The program will be unveiled in March 2013.
