Next week, Yuri’s Night will be coming to Port Alberni.

Yuri’s Night is a global celebration of human achievement in space. It’s a world-wide celebration of all things space from Sputnik to Star Trek, and it’s coming to Char’s Landing.

Around the world in April, events commemorate Yuri Gagarin as the first human in space on April 12, 1961, and the first Space Shuttle launch on April 12, 1981. Charlene Patterson’s out-of-this-world birthday launched the same day. And 2017 marks 150 years of Canadian achievements in science and in space.

On Tuesday, April 11, from 7-9 p.m., STARFLEET Alberni Deep Space Port Star Trek Fan Association will host Yuri’s Night World Space Party & SPCA Fundraiser.

This will be Alberni Deep Space Port’s third annual event at Char’s Landing.

Mix and mingle with space-themed beverages, snacks, videos, music, and a costume contest. Dress up as Galileo or other historical figures. Come as Sputnik or an astronaut. Boldly go as a character from Star Trek, Star Wars, Babylon 5, etc. No costume? No problem! Come as a hologram of your 21st-century self — as you are.

This event is a fundraiser for the Alberni Clayoquot SPCA — for interspecies understanding, and animal astronauts, the first Earthlings in space. Admission is by donation at the door - $5 suggested, or equivalent in pet food, towels, blankets or pet toys. (For hygiene reasons, toys must be new).

Birthday cake will be served at 8:00 pm to celebrate Charlene Patterson’s space-age birthday on April 12. Be sure to sign the Birthday Book for Char, who contributes so much to the Southport community. The Space theme continues all evening. STARFLEET members will be on hand with games and trivia.

Alberni Deep Space Port Star Trek Fan Association celebrates all things Trek — the fun and adventure of reaching for that bright future.
