Dragon boaters hold open house at Sproat Lake Landing

Try your hand at dragon boating or paddling an outrigger canoe on Sunday, May 11 at Sproat Lake Landing

Have you ever wanted to go out on Sproat Lake and experience the beauty of this natural treasure? Would you like to have a healthy, regular one-hour aerobic workout while enjoying the view from the lake?

The Sproat Lake Dragon Boat Club and Sproat Lake Outrigger Canoe Club offer opportunities to join them for a great time on the water one or more times per week.

The clubs are holding an open house Sunday, May 11 from 1-3 p.m. at Sproat Lake Landing, along the Pacific Rim Highway. Come out and give either dragon boating or outrigger canoe paddling a try.

If you're interested in joining a new activity, you can go online and sign up for a time slot that suits your schedule, whether it's early morning, mid-morning or evening. The cost is $5 per session or less if you purchase a quarterly or annual membership.

Both types of paddling are open to people of all ages, and no experience is necessary. You'll learn as you go and have fun in the process. Paddles and personal flotation devices (PFDs) are provided, or you can bring your own. Club members will teach you how to paddle and if you're interested in competing, there are race teams to join.
