Mid-Island Kidney Association is a local kidney dialysis patient support charity. This organization was established in 2000 by Marjorie Taylor and her daughter, Kathy Culina.
Each year, we hold two raffles: one in the spring, and one before Christmas. The tickets are sold by Norm Taylor and Ed Martin on Tuesdays at No Frills and Thursdays at Quality Foods. The proceeds from these raffles help us provide comfort supplies to dialysis patients, such as televisions, headphones and even cookies. At Easter and Christmas, MIKA is also proud to give each patient a monetary gift and candy. We have also been able to increase our support for dialysis transplant recipients with up to $5,000, thanks to the generous support of the people of Alberni Valley.
Our organization meets every third Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Smitty’s. Anyone who wishes to volunteer or get more involved is more than welcome to join us at these monthly meetings. You can also contact Penny Gates at 250-723-5282 or Norm Taylor at 250-724-2637.
The Mid-Island Kidney Association also has an account at the local bottle depot. If you would like to donate, please use the name Penny Gates and number 250-723-5282.
The Mid-Island Kidney Association would like to give a special thank you to Sonja Drinkwater of the Alberni Valley News. She is a valued member, whose support and professional help has assisted our organization in many ways. We appreciate all the photos and information she has provided for articles in our local paper. It has been extremely valuable to MIKA.
Lastly, MIKA would like to thank all our volunteer members for their continued efforts and support. Although we are a small organization, we would not be successful without them.
