The Alberni District Fall Fair Grounds were full of vintage vehicles on May 25, 2025 for the inaugural Horsepower for Healing event.
Hosted by the Port Alberni Community Action Team (CAT), the car show was a unique community event focused on men’s mental health, harm reduction, and connection.
Organizers were very pleased with the turnout. First place in the People’s Choice went to Russ Moen for his blue low rider truck, second place went to Cliff Bruessler’s 1971 Ford Maverick and third went to Bill and Jennifer Collette for their 1965 Rambler Marlin that they have owned since 2023.
Kevin King came from Victoria with his 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air with a 350 cubic inch motor. He purchased it in Bakersfield, California and said that the Chev Bel Air has always been his favourite car.
Cliff Nordmarken of Port Alberni had his 1949 Anglia that he has owned for 12 years. “I built it from the ground up. It was a race car that was owned by the late Doug Murray of Qualicum," said Nordmarken.
Dean Poulsen of Port Alberni had his 1934 Ford 4-door sedan on site and he has owned it since 2003. Paul Anderson also of Port Alberni had his 1929 Plymouth Sedan on show. He has owned it since last summer.
