Members of the Port Alberni Kinsmen and Kinettes were at city hall on Friday, Feb. 16 to raise a flag for Heritage Week.

Heritage Week runs from Feb. 19-25 in British Columbia.

Club members were on hand as Mayor Sharie Minions signed a proclamation for Heritage Week in Port Alberni, and they group also raised the Kin Canada flag outside city hall. The flag will fly for the week.

The Kinsmen and Kinettes will wrap up Heritage Week with an annual dinner for seniors on Sunday, Feb. 25 at Echo Centre.

This year’s theme is ‘Layer by Layer’—the layering of stories that describe the uniqueness of a community’s past and present while informing the future. British Columbians are encouraged to learn something new about the many “layers” of the place they call home.

The Alberni Valley Museum is celebrating Heritage Week with several different events. People may pick up a passport at the museum and have it stamped at different events throughout the week. The museum is located at 4255 Wallace St. in Echo Centre. The museum is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. (closed on statutory holidays).
