There may not have been fireworks or parades in Port Alberni, but residents and visitors still found a way to have fun on Canada Day.
At Harbour Quay, the Alberni Valley Rock and Gem Club was joined at Spirit Square by a number of other vendors for a Canada Day market. Sharky Balloons had his balloon magic for the kids, and City of Port Alberni parks and recreation staff painted faces and offered crafts and games. Singer Rob Armich performed the tunes just outside of the square.
The highlight of the day was the return of the train. Passenger cars were filled to the brim during each short jaunt down the tracks, and rides even included a train robbery by the dreaded Beaufort Gang.
Although there was no parade this year, members of the Western Vancouver Island Industrial Heritage Society (IHS) cruised around town in their vintage trucks for all to see.
