The Alberni Valley Community Foundation recently distributed $200,000 to eight local organizations through a provincial poverty reduction fund.
The funding came from the Government of B.C.'s Community Prosperity Fund, which is a $25 million investment from the B.C. government that aims to advance poverty reduction and social inclusion. Funding decisions are made by local community foundations, which allows communities to make decisions about what would most benefit them.
Local beneficiaries of the funding were Alberni Drug and Alcohol Prevention Service Society (ADAPS), Alberni Valley Food Security Society, Alberni Valley Neighbourhood Link Society, Kuu-us Crisis Line Society, the Port Alberni Backpack Program Society, Port Alberni Family Guidance Association, Sage Haven Society and the Wholesome Meals on Wheels Association.
"The Foundation is delighted to have secured this funding to support these dedicated individuals and their charities that do so much good work in our community," said AVCF director Hugh Grist.
