Port Alberni rings in 2025

City of Port Alberni offered free events for families

New Year’s Eve started early for the younger members of the community.

The City of Port Alberni held a number of free events for Port Alberni families on Dec. 31, 2024, including crafts at the Alberni Valley Museum, skating at the Alberni Valley Multiplex and swimming at Echo Pool.

The last stop for youngsters was the Glenwood Centre, where children aged 12 and under received a free toy, hot dogs, popcorn and pop, all courtesy of the Port Alberni Toy Run. Visitors donned rollerblades and at the stroke of 9 p.m., David Wiwchar held the countdown for the much-anticipated balloon drop. Children scooped up balloons and left with their treasures.

There were plenty of activities for adults around Port Alberni on New Year's Eve, including the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 293's popular dance.
