The Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay for Life raised more than $158,000 this year—a record for Port Alberni, and a lot more than Nanaimo raised, leadership chair Melissa Bigmore said.

“Relay this year was a huge success,” she said, adding that there were more than 40 teams and 400 participants—both records.

“Despite the rain the spirit in the air was not dampened,” Bigmore said.

Shaw-Mazing raised a hefty $25,000.
