Despite the heat on Friday, July 12, many stopped by the Fall Fair Grounds in the evening to try out the chili that was made by Starboard Grill, Best Western Plus Barclay Hotel and Smitty’s Restaurant.
The winners were chosen by those tasting the chili. The best chili went to Starboard Grill, with the spiciest going to Smitty’s Restaurant. They were presented with gold and silver medals, with bronze going to the Best Western Barclay Hotel. The Navy League handed out the chili samples.
The contest was sponsored by King Edward Liquor Store and the Alberni District Fall Fair. There was live music by Epixx, as well as many vendors with every kind of item imaginable. There was also a beverage garden and hot dog and hamburger stand.
It was a great turnout despite the hot day.
