Members of the Mid-Island Kidney Association gather for an annual photo at the MIKA summer barbecue.

September is a time for the monthly meetings of the Mid-Island Kidney Association (MIKA) to start. Their first meeting after a summer break is on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at Smitty’s Restaurant at 2 p.m.

Anyone wishing to attend is welcome, even if you don’t have kidney disease you may know of someone that has. This is an opportunity to meet with the board and have a casual talk with them and find out what is available for those afflicted with kidney disease.

The MIKA assists the Port Alberni dialysis unit with their list of needs, assists local patients with monetary assistance and brings dialysis patients little gifts at each special occasion on the calendar.
They also hold bi-annual draws to raise funds. These are usually run by MIKA president Norm Taylor and board member Ed Martin.

Association members recently held their annual picnic at board member Penny Gates scenic home at Sproat Lake. This was a potluck barbecue and all had a great time gathering and sharing their summer stories.

They also hold a Christmas party for all those wishing to add to their social calendar.

If you would like more information please contact Penny Gates at 250-723-5282 or Norm Taylor at 250-720-1358.
