The Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 293 are sponsors of the Alberni Valley-based 109 Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corp and Navy League Cadet Corps Armour Ford. As part of their sponsorship this year, Legion president Roy Buchanan presented donations of $10,000 each to Lt. Todd Flaro of the Navy League and Capt. Darren Phillippe of the sea cadets.
Children aged nine to 12 can join the Navy League, which meets one day a week every Wednesday from 6:30-9:00 p.m. For more information email president Steve Fandrakis at alberni.pres@vidcadets.ca.

The Legion also presented $1,000 each to Fir Park and Echo Village for the purchase of outdoor furniture on their new decks. Accepting the donations for both organizations was Tara McGifford, who is in charge of programming and Adult Day Services for both facilities. Legion president Roy Buchanan and Poppy Chair Shannon Doré awarded the donations, which came from the Poppy Fund.
Next up, the Legion will be hosting a dinner for Tour de Rock riders on Friday, Sept. 27. Riders will be piped in at 5:30 p.m. and dinner begins at 6 p.m. followed by a silent auction and presentations. Tickets are available for pre-purchase at the Legion or can be purchased at the door.
