SCENE AND HEARD: Port Alberni Legion installs new executive

Legion's Sweetheart Dance will take place on Valentine's Day

Port Alberni's Legion branch held its installation of officers last month.

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 293 held the event on Sunday, Jan. 19 in the upstairs venue of their Victoria Quay building. A light lunch was served, and the installation was done by Micheline Sen, the Central Vancouver Island Deputy Zone Commander. Also present was the Central Vancouver Island Zone Commander Achim Sen.

Louise Waller was installed as Sergeant at Arms, Bill Morin is Secretary, Audrie Poll is Treasurer, Bruce Proudfoot is Service Officer and Major Michael Ramsey is Chaplain.

Executive officers are Joe Pyrczak, Helen Helm, Mary Anne Tourangeau, Connie Richardson and Shannon Dore. The vice President is Jenny Neuwirth, past president is Al Mooney and president is Roy Buchanan.

The Legion has donated more than $119,000 to various causes in Port Alberni through its various fundraisers, like the Poppy Fund and twice-a-week Bingo games.

Bingo takes place every Monday and Wednesday at 6:45 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Saturday is the meat draw, and this is followed by a drop-in dance to live music from 5-8 p.m.

Next up, the Legion will be holding its annual Sweetheart Dance on Friday, Feb. 14. Tickets are $22 each.

On Thursday, Feb. 27, the Wounded Warriors will be coming through town. The Legion will host a dinner for the runners at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $35 each. To purchase tickets, drop by the lounge which is open Monday to Saturday from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. You do not have to be a member to attend any of these events.
