The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 293 celebrated the 80th anniversary of D-Day on June 9, 2024 with a free roast beef dinner for veterans and guests.
Branch members prepared the tasty dinner and there were two types of pudding for dessert. True to custom, president Roy Buchanan and honorary president Winnie Koal took on the ceremonial cutting of the cake.
Sandi Paterson gave a short speech about her mom, who was a veteran, and her uncle, who passed away overseas.
Bob Kanngiesser shared some tales about his service with the RCAF from 1958 to 1967. He ended his remarks with a recognition of those veterans who landed in Normandy on D-Day, June 6, 1944.
Many veterans attended the event and all had an enjoyable evening. Old-time songs were led by Bruce Proudfoot and Sandi Paterson.
