Sea of red and white marks Canada Day in Port Alberni

Alberni Valley residents showed up at Harbour Quay ready to party for Celebrate PA! on July 1, 2025

Canada's pride was showing at Harbour Quay in Port Alberni as hundreds flocked to the quay for Celebrate PA!, held July 1, 2025.

Many families came to the quay for the outdoors rock and gem show, vendors, live entertainment, kids' activities and games that were set up around the playground. The crowd was a sea of red and white–the colours of the Canadian flag–and there was even a "best dressed Canuck" contest for kids.

The Alberni Pacific Railway ran special steam train rides along the waterfront with the No. 7 Baldwin steam engine.

The Maritime Discovery Centre had both of its buildings open, and a chalk art contest for anyone who wanted to enter.

The event was put on by the City of Port Alberni's Parks, Recreation and Culture, led by manager of culture Sheila Perry. The event included an opening from both city Councillor Charles Mealey and Hupacasath First Nation elected Chief Councillor Brandy Lauder.

Among the many people dressed in red and white was a smattering of orange T-shirts from people acknowledging Indigenous Peoples who occupied what is now called Canada prior to Confederation.
