Sproat Lake fire department opens doors

Volunteer fire department in the Alberni Valley is seeking new recruits

The Sproat Lake Volunteer Fire Department opened the doors of the Harold Bishop Fire Hall on Saturday, July 28 for an open house.

Visitors had a chance to meet volunteer firefighters, participate in demos and learn about fire safety.

The SLVFP is currently seeking new recruits, and held a door-to-door campaign in the Sproat Lake area in June. The department holds training programs for new recruits every second Friday night and Saturdays.

The volunteer fire department has been battling a wildfire near Turtle Lake Road since B.C. Day long weekend.
