Terry Fox Run in Port Alberni raises almost $2,000

Event had 57 runners registered

The 44th annual Terry Fox Run in Port Alberni raised thousands for cancer research.

There were 57 runners registered for the event, which took place on Sunday, Sept. 15 at the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 293. A total of $1,950 was raised on Sunday, with more coming from online donations.

The Terry Fox Run was started in Port Alberni by Lily Diotte and the late Rob Diotte ,along with their friends, in the 1990s.

The Alberni Valley Lions took over the run in 2004 when the Diotte’s stepped aside, with Rob Dalton and the late Joe Dvorak taking the lead. This year, the Lions had 17 volunteers helping them make it a successful fundraiser.

The Port Alberni run has raised more than $140,500 and counting towards the cure for cancer in Terry’s name.
