• 60 YEARS OF ALBERNI ARTS: A retrospective exhibit at the Grove Gallery (7-5440 Argyle St. at Harbour Quay) celebrating the Community Arts Council of the Alberni Valley.

TUE. JAN. 14

• AV COMMUNITY BAND PRACTICES RESUME in the band room at ADSS. Alberni Valley Community Concert Band practices from 6:30-7:40 p.m. and Harbour City Big Band practices from 7:45-8:55 p.m. New members welcome. FMI: jkynoch@sd70.bc.ca (concert band) or gsfalls@shaw.ca (big band).

• CURLING FUNSPIEL at the Alberni Valley Curling Club. One-day curling event. Doors open at noon, games start at 1 p.m. Pre-register by emailing office@albernicurling.com. $30 includes dinner. New curlers encouraged.

• WINTER FILM FEST kicks off with “The Fabulous Four” at Landmark Cinemas Paramount Theatre. 5 p.m. Tickets and series passes available at the Alberni Valley Museum.

• AN EVENING OF LIVE MUSIC AND CONVERSATION at the Capitol Theatre with CBC hosts Jason D’Souza and Rohit Joseph. This free concert will blend music from the land and from the heart. Tsimka Martin will share songs in her heritage Tla-o-qui-aht language, while Michael Red creates soundscapes. 7-9 p.m. Tickets can be found at www.atthecapitol.org.

• JOIN OUR WRITING COMMUNITY In Search of Happily Ever After, author Gwynne Hunt’s drop-in writing group meets the first and third Tuesday of the month from January to May, 6:45 p.m. in the upstairs lounge at the Capitol Theatre. Doors lock at 7 p.m. Free admission.

• GOLDEN OLDIES CAR CLUB meets on the first Thursday of each month upstairs at the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 293 (Victoria Quay) at 7 p.m. New members welcome. No need to have a car — just an interest in vehicles.
