WED. JAN. 8
CANADIAN COUNCIL OF THE BLIND meets at 10 a.m. on the first Wednesday of each month at Abbeyfield (downstairs meeting room at the back of the building) All low vision and blind individuals are invited to come out for support and connection. FMI: Jenn Collette, 250-240-1738. 

THU. JAN. 9
MOUNT KLITSA GARDEN CLUB meets at 7 p.m. at the Echo Centre (Cedar Room). Parlour show subject is Winter Gardening. Speaker is Trish Hoff on transitioning from a large garden on Mayne Island to a small one in Port Alberni. Remember your name tags, cups and small bill cash. Newcomers welcome. 


JAN. 9-11
TOTEM 69 Annual basketball tournament returns to the ADSS Gym. The ADSS Senior Girls kick things off on Thursday with a 5 p.m game vs. Kwalikum. Admission is $10 per day for adults (18 and up) and $5 per day for ages 5-17. Kids under the age of 5 get in for free.

THE BARRY MILLER QUARTET returns to Char’s Landing with swinging sounds for a Happy New Year. Music is ongoing from 6-8 p.m. Doors open at 5 p.m. Attendees are welcome to bring their own snacks/supper and the beverage bar is open. Voluntary suggested gratuity of $15 (students/seniors) or $20 (adults).

AV COMMUNITY BAND PRACTICES RESUME in the band room at ADSS. Alberni Valley Community Concert Band practices from 6:30-7:40 p.m. and Harbour City Big Band practices from 7:45-8:55 p.m. New members welcome. FMI: jkynoch@sd70.bc.ca (concert band) or gsfalls@shaw.ca (big band).

WINTER FILM FEST kicks off with “The Fabulous Four” at Landmark Cinemas Paramount Theatre. 5 p.m. Tickets and series passes available at the Alberni Valley Museum.


FRI. JAN. 24
AN EVENING OF LIVE MUSIC AND CONVERSATION at the Capitol Theatre with CBC hosts Jason D’Souza and Rohit Joseph. This free concert will blend music from the land and from the heart. Tsimka Martin will share songs in her heritage Tla-o-qui-aht language, while Michael Red creates soundscapes. 7-9 p.m. Tickets can be found at www.atthecapitol.org.
