Alt-folk duo Jesse Waldman and Marc L'Esperance are preparing for the September release of their newest album, The Shimmering Divide, with a tour of the Gulf Islands and a stop at Char's Landing in Port Alberni.
A staple of the East Van music scene, Jesse Waldman’s bluesy, roots-driven sound reflects his deep connection to the city and its diverse culture. His songs often tell stories of the streets, the people and the places that define Vancouver’s creative heart.
This sophomore album from Waldman, created with musical brother Marc L'Esperance, is an acoustic-based collection of alt-folk introspections of vulnerability, graciously unearthed for listeners and delivered with an unassuming earnestness, as well as fresh wisdom acquired since Waldman's debut album Mansion Full of Ghosts (2017).
L'Esperance shares artist credit on this album, as well as co-producer, multi-instrumentalist, and engineer. The two have been performing together live and in the studio spanning nearly 20 years, from features at many beloved Vancouver bar haunts that have come and gone, to festival appearances such as Burnaby Blues & Roots Festival and Mission Folk Music Festival.
The duo's musical relationship, long-time friendship and unique melding of voices has solidified them as a brother dynamic; one can easily feel and sense this love and deep-rooted trust, for both the insight and boundless musical talent that they each bring.
The pair will be performing at Char's Landing on Sunday, Aug. 25. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and music starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at www.charslanding.com, at the door or by calling or texting 250-730-1636.
