The Vancouver Island Silk Painters Group is excited to unveil their latest exhibition, "West Coast Kaleidoscope," at Grove Gallery from July 30 to Aug. 24. An opening and artists reception is set for this Saturday, Aug. 3, from 1–3 p.m.
This vibrant exhibition showcases the artistic talents of Joy Brown, Nancy Korman, Karen MacRae, Dianne Nelson, and Maureen Walker, who hail from various parts of Vancouver Island, from Sidney to Campbell River.
Founded in January 2000 by Maureen Walker at Pioneer Silk Studio, the group emphasizes, “we are, first and foremost, painters. This is not fabric art, or silk-screen printing. The silk is our canvas.”
The members of the Vancouver Island Silk Painters are well-versed in traditional silk painting techniques like outlining with resist and have embraced contemporary methods such as layering colours and indirect painting. Their artistic sessions are vibrant gatherings where innovation and experimental techniques are shared enthusiastically.
“The joy of silk painting is like no other,” the group shares, highlighting the imaginative use of silk as a medium for painting rather than merely a fabric for traditional art forms. The "West Coast Kaleidoscope" exhibition promises a vivid exploration of colour and creativity, inviting attendees to delve into the dynamic and diverse world of silk painting.
Join us at the Grove Gallery to view the exhibition at the Harbour Quay; Unit 7-5440 Argyle St. We are open seven days a week, Monday - Thursday 10 - 5, Friday and Saturday 10 - 4, Sunday 11 - 4. For more information phone 250-724-3412.
