Artists in Port Alberni are once again gearing up for the annual en plein air Paint Out.
This year, 2023, marks the 11th annual Alberni Valley Paint Out and artists are again invited to gather and respond to the Valley’s diverse landscape on Saturday, Sept. 9 and Sunday, Sept. 10.
This year’s event will be organized by Alberni Art Rave. Art Rave invites artists of all skills and mediums to the Alberni Valley Paint Out, an event held in conjunction with the International Plein Air Painters. This organization is hosting the 21st Annual Great Worldwide Paint Out on the same weekend.
On Saturday, artists will be able to enjoy access to a private property on the shores of Sproat Lake. The extensive gardens and expansive views across the lake to the mountains beyond will offer inspiration and options for a variety of creative interpretation.
On Sunday, the group will gather at Harbour Quay, which offers views up the inlet and Beaufort Range. In addition, it’s a short stroll to the new Tyee Landing waterfront walkway with views of the old mill site.
In the past, artists of all levels of skill and experience have participated in this event, including novices to prize-winning professional plein air pastel artist, D.F. Gray, whose work shows in New York and in Plein Air magazine.
