Are you between the ages of 16 and 30 and looking to get creative in your community? The Dock+ in Port Alberni is collaborating with the Community Arts Council of the Alberni Valley to host a community mural project and we’re looking for five enthusiastic mentees to help bring it to life.
No professional experience is necessary—just a willingness to learn, contribute, and be part of a public art project that will leave a lasting mark. Participants will work alongside a local muralist, learning how murals are planned, sketched, painted and sealed.
Key painting dates will be May 24–25, with an optional sketch day on May 3. Mentees will be credited as contributing artists and gain valuable experience in public art making. The deadline to apply is April 25. To learn more, visit alberniarts.com or by contacting the Grove Gallery at admin@alberniarts.com. Don’t miss this opportunity to build your skills and help beautify your community.

Annual book sale's going to be massive
The community arts council is getting ready for the annual book sale May 9-10 and it's going to be huge! Arts council volunteers have been collecting and packing books in anticipation of the book sale, taking place this year at the Alberni Athletic Hall from 6-8 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
This year's event will feature a public reading from author Evelyn Thompson-George, who wrote The Defiant 511 of the Alberni Indian Residential School. She will have copies of her new book available.
The Mt. Klitsa Garden Club will be holding their annual plant sale in the foyer at the Athletic Hall on Saturday, May 10 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is the 25th year for the popular sale.
