Canadian country star Aaron Pritchett will be the headliner for this year’s 34th annual Okee Dokee Slo-Pitch Tournament and Funtastic Music Festival in Port Alberni.
The annual music festival and slo-pitch tournament hosted by the Port Alberni Funtastic Sports Society will take place over Canada Day long weekend from June 29 to July 1.
For the music festival portion of the weekend, Funtastic has announced that award-winning country artist Aaron Pritchett will be the headliner on the night of June 29. Pritchett has been a household name in Canadian country music for 20 years, but when he hits the stage he does so with an energy and intensity of an artist fresh on the scene. With 13 Top 10 hits under his belt (buckle), Pritchett has made a career seamlessly moving from good ol’ boy anthems like “Hold My Beer” to pop-tinged party pleasers like “Worth a Shoot” to heartstring-pulling ballads like “Warm Safe Place.”
Opening for Pritchett will be Brad Millers from Australia, and Amanda Hicks and Boondock.
On June 30, the music festival shifts away from country music for the night with Best Of Both Worlds, a tribute to Van Halen, taking the stage. Best of Both Worlds is a group of musicians and super-fans who honour the Van Halen legacy by performing in character as the rock pioneers. The band has two singers, which allows them to represent everything from the whiskey-soaked glory days with David Lee Roth to the chart-topping re-birth featuring the Red Rocker Sammy Hagar.
Opening for Best of Both Worlds will be local band Big Empty and another act still to be announced.
Wristbands will be on sale in March. Information will soon be available on the Funtastic website at www.funtasticalberni.com.
