Gibsons poet Atma Frans will be the featured reader at the next Electric Mermaid live reading event at Char’s Landing on Wednesday, May 29.

Frans’ poetry has won first prize in Quagmire Magazine’s inaugural poetry contest and was a finalist in contests run by Freefall Magazine, Oxford Brookes University, The Malahat Review and Sunspot Literary Journal. She was also nominated for the National Magazine Award. Her work has been published in literary magazines, including Canada’s Prairie Fire, The New Quarterly, Plenitude, Freefall, Arc Poetry, CV2 and in the UK’s Lighthouse Literary Journal and Obsessed with Pipework. In her writing, Atma searches for the voice beneath her personas: woman, mother, trauma survivor, architect, queer woman and author. She lives on the ancestral territory of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh people in Gibsons, B.C..

With host and emcee Derek Hanebury’s literary guidance, plus a host of authors through the open mic, this evening promises to keep poetry and prose fans engaged. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the open mic runs from 6-8 p.m. Admission is $10. See www.charslanding.com/events for the Zoom link.
