River-Port Danceworks’ beloved production of The Nutcracker returns to Port Alberni for its ninth season.
The ballet will bring holiday magic to the Alberni District Secondary School (ADSS) Theatre on Nov. 30, with shows at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
This production, directed by Jen Soo and guest directors and choreographers Marsha Kwan and Giovanni Giordano, continues the tradition of celebrating the season through dance and bringing together local communities in a showcase of talent.
The Port Alberni performances will feature young dancers from Stage West School of Performing Arts, who join the touring cast of dancers from Campbell River, Salt Spring Island and Powell River. This diverse cast of students brings the wonder of the holiday season to life on stage.
Adding star power to the production, Irene Ta will perform as the elegant Sugar Plum Fairy, Vladimir Pereira will delight audiences as the beloved Mother Ginger and Giovanni Giordano will enchant as the mysterious Drosselmeyer. The special guest performers, paired with the energy and passion of the young dancers, promise a magical experience for audience members of all ages.
“We’re thrilled to bring The Nutcracker to Port Alberni once again,” said Soo. “This year’s cast is truly exceptional, with young dancers from multiple communities coming together to create something special. Our goal is to unite communities and inspire students by giving them the opportunity to perform alongside professionals.”
Tickets are available now at the Funk Trunk (4920 Cherry Creek Rd).
