Char's Landing in Port Alberni will open its 2025 concert series with a dance party presented by Robin Layne on Friday, Jan. 24.
Layne is a Juno-nominated percussionist, composer and educator who is devoted to bringing the marimba into new spaces. Inspired by rhythm and how it bridges cultures, Layne has been chasing sounds and rhythm around the globe for the past 20 years and has been able to study and perform all around the world.
Inspired by living on the Pacific coast of Canada, by the birth of a son and by a deep dive into the folkloric marimba traditions of Mexico and Colombia, Layne's newest album Pacifico delivers nine tracks that transcend the bounds of tradition, blurring the lines between jazz and folkloric sounds.
After performing at the Victoria and Tofino Jazz Festivals last summer, Layne is excited to share his music in Port Alberni as he starts off the 2025 touring season.
The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance at robinlayne.bpt.me.
