Singer-songwriter Ryan McMahon of Lion Bear Fox will be celebrating the release of his sixth studio album with a performance at one of his favourite venues in the country—Port Alberni’s Char’s Landing.

With In Line for a Smile, due to release on Jan. 18, 2019, McMahon continues to serve up controversial lyrics and a call out to the human race to connect face to face. The album is a collection of songs that span topics of the lack of human social connection in the world today, the self-help racket and the need for the human race to place value on family, friends and the enrichment of relationships.

The first single—Too Tired for Love—is a satirical upbeat number expressing the exhaustive state the world is in trying to keep up profiles of fake happiness while the world is in a state of chaos.

McMahon has been writing and recording music for two decades and this offering to the public is a “Hail Mary” of cynicism and contempt for the false faces the world portrays on social media.

“It is time we all pull off the masks and look up from the devices,” says McMahon. “There are people all around us if we pay attention. Connections to be made that are physically real and right in front of you.”

The show at Char’s Landing takes place on Friday, Nov. 30.

“It’s a wonderful room to sing in, and the way Char has it set up lends itself to a very intimate performing experience,” McMahon says. “Good for both artist and audience member.”

Doors open at 7 p.m. and showtime is at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Call 778-421-2427 or visit https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3819304.
