Teas at the Mill wrap up with pair of special events at McLean Mill

Seniors' tea, 'royal' high tea signal end of popular series for Port Alberni's community arts council

The Community Arts Council of the Alberni Valley will conclude its popular "Teas at the Mill" series with two final events that promise to leave a lasting impression on attendees. Having revitalized this Port Alberni classic at the picturesque McLean Mill, the series has offered a unique blend of local art, music, and exquisite tea experiences, attracting families, art enthusiasts, and community members of all ages.

Originally hosted at the Rollin Arts Centre on Eighth Avenue as "Teas on the Terrace," the series found a new home at the historic McLean Mill after the community arts council moved to the Grove Gallery at the Harbour Quay. This shift brought a fresh twist to the tradition, enhancing the community's cultural landscape through engaging and enriching activities.

The upcoming Seniors Strawberry Tea on Thursday, Aug. 22, from 1–3 p.m., is specially tailored for seniors, featuring lower ticket costs and accessible arrangements. At $20 per ticket, attendees will enjoy a delightful afternoon of tea, cake, live music, and art, with a "best dressed" award adding a touch of spirited competition.

The grand finale, a Royal Sparkling Tea, will be held on Sunday, Aug. 25 from 3–5 p.m. This luxurious affair, priced at $35 per ticket, includes a glass of sparkling wine, freshly made scones, finger sandwiches, chair massages, and the serene sounds of live music from Folk Song Circle paired with live painting sessions. It’s an opportunity for guests to pamper themselves in an atmosphere of elegance and relaxation.

Teas at the Mill have been designed to offer a peaceful retreat from the daily grind, allowing participants to step back in time and savour the simple pleasures of life in a historic setting. As the series draws to a close, the arts council invites the community to join in these final celebrations of art, music, and culinary delight.
