As the temperature drops, the Alberni Valley comes alive with a lineup of festive events that add warmth and creativity to the season. It all starts with this weekend's Harbour Quay Light-Up, the Grove Gallery art and rummage sale, plus some wonderful upcoming choir performances for lovers of live music.

Join us this weekend for the Harbour Quay Light-Up!

Kick off the holiday season at the Harbour Quay Light-Up on Friday, Nov. 29 from 5:30–7 p.m. This cherished annual event, hosted by the Community Arts Council of the Alberni Valley, features performances by local choirs including the ADSS Band, Timbre! Choir, Barkley Sounds Choir, and Urbanstreet Choir. The evening’s centrepiece—the tree lighting—will take place at 6 p.m.

Adding to the holiday cheer, Santa Claus will make an appearance, and delicious treats will be available from local favourites like Starboard Grill, The Donut Shop, and Salmonberry's Emporium. This free community event promises a delightful evening filled with festive fun for families and friends.

Attendees can also enjoy extended shopping hours at the Mistletoe Market in the Grove Gallery, which displays a wide array of artwork and crafts from talented local vendors. Additionally, the Grove’s Silent Art Auction and art-supply rummage sale will offer unique finds.

What is an art-supply rummage sale, you ask? Why it’s a great way to stock up on used art supplies. The rummage sale will feature a broad selection of art supplies, from repurposable canvases and frames to paints and crafts, all priced between $2 and $10. These items, donated to the arts council from personal collections and an estate sale, provide a perfect opportunity for artists and crafters to stock up while supporting the local arts council.

Christmas comes 'home' on Dec 1

The Barkley Sounds Community Choir presents "Christmas In Our Hometown" on Sunday, Dec. 1 at the AV United Church at 3747 Church St. This concert will feature performances by Phil’s Harmonics String Orchestra, AV United Church Handbell Ensemble, Dennis Olsen, Guy Langlois and Graham Villette. Tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for children under 12, sold at the Grove Gallery and Echo Centre.

Sing A Merry Christmas with Timbre!
