The Alberni Valley Chamber of Commerce will host an all-candidates' meeting featuring people running for a seat on Port Alberni City Council in an upcoming by-election.
The seat became available following the death of sitting councillor and former mayor John Douglas in July. Five candidates are competing for the seat: Debra Hamilton, Shinahkoh Couture, Richard Huneault, Tom Verbrugge and Brennan Wauters.
Three candidates have already confirmed their attendance, chamber CEO Jolleen Dick said. The meeting is set for Wednesday, Dec. 4 at RimRock Casino in the Cathedral Grove Room. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the meeting will start at 6:30 p.m.
David Wiwchar from 93.3 the PEAK will moderate the meeting. A draw will be held at the beginning of the meeting to determine speaking order. Candidates will have up to five minutes to introduce themselves, followed by a question and answer period.
Dick said questions will not be taken from the floor; people may e-mail their questions for candidates to info@albernichamber.ca until noon on Tuesday, Dec. 3.
Candidates will have two to three minutes to summarize their positions before the emcee concludes the event. The meeting will wrap up at 8:30 p.m.
The agenda, rules and regulations for the meeting can be found at albernichamber.ca under the "Events" link.
