Pacific Rim School District (SD70) is getting a new superintendent.
Tim Davie, who has been with the district since Aug. 1, 2022, has accepted a position as superintendent with the Cowichan Valley School District and will leave SD70 on Jan. 10, 2025.
The district has hired from within to replace Davie. Assistant superintendent Peter Klaver has been promoted to take on the superintendent's job.
School board chair Pam Craig, in a Dec. 13, 2024 letter addressed to staff, students and families announcing the change in leadership, thanked Davie for his leadership and "unwavering commitment" to the district, particularly in creating and putting into action the district's four-year strategic plan.
"His commitment to building and fostering meaningful relationships with our local Indigenous nations' governments, ensuring that the Indigenous culture and ways are embraced throughout our schools and classrooms and building positive learning environments for Indigenous learners, leaves a positive and lasting impact on our school district," she added.
Craig said Klaver has "a deep understanding of our district and a shared commitment to the values and priorities that guide our work."
Klaver served as assistant superintendent for five and a half years and dealt with human resources and labour relations issues, according to his LinkedIn profile. He has been with the district for eight years, having served as Director of Instruction–Human Resources from 2013-2019 and district principal from 2011-2013.
Klaver was also fire chief with the Sproat Lake Volunteer Fire Department from 2007-2012.
James Messenger, previously Director of Instruction–Learning & Innovation, has been promoted to assistant superintendent. Both Klaver and Messenger have collaborated on various issues within the district in their tenures, Craig wrote.
