Representatives with the Alberni-Clayoquot SPCA branch and the Port Alberni Fire Department rescue a cat stuck in a tree on Fourth Avenue.

Staff with the Alberni-Clayoquot branch of the BC SPCA teamed up with the Port Alberni Fire Department this week to rescue a cat stuck in a tree.

Liane Fitzpatrick, who was across the street at DBA Silencing at the time, said the cat had gotten stuck at the top of a large spruce tree on the corner of Fourth Avenue and Burde Street.

"Everyone was alerted by the desperate cries of a cat in distress," she said. "Turns out it was the brother of the stuck cat. He was sitting at the base of the tree crying his eyes out."

Kayla Castellarin of the Alberni-Clayoquot SPCA said that the cat's owner reached out to them, and the SPCA in turn reached out to the Port Alberni Fire Department — and their ladder truck — for some assistance.

The cat was rescued from the tree unharmed and returned to its owner.
