Port Alberni's annual Fall Fair will be returning this weekend.
From Thursday, Sept. 5 to Sunday, Sept. 8, the Fall Fair Grounds in Port Alberni will be full of amusement rides, food trucks, live music, vendors and raffles for the 79th annual Alberni District Fall Fair.
But the fair isn't just about rides and food, say organizers. The fair offers a chance to celebrate the community’s farm and crafting traditions. The Kinsmen Community Centre and the Van Ipren Building will feature displays of local hobbies and crafts, as well as horticulture and floriculture. At the 4-H Barns, people can view livestock such as cows, sheep, birds and rabbits. This year's Fall Fair theme is "Growing Fun for Everyone."
"While attending the fair, you will find much to see and do," said Fall Fair president Mitch Gardner. "Visit the animals and displays and satisfy your taste buds and earbuds with great food and music. All this is brought to you by so many volunteers, who put in thousands of hours."
Gates open on Thursday at 5 p.m. and will close for the final time on Sunday at 5 p.m. Gate prices are $5 on Thursday. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, entry is $14 for general admission, $10 for seniors and students, $4 for children four to 11 and free for anyone under the age of three. A family pass (for two adults and two children) costs $32.
A full slate of musical entertainment is planned for the weekend, culminating with headliners Prism on Saturday evening (starting at 9 p.m.). With two Juno Awards for Album and Group of the Year, multi-platinum albums and a continuing legacy of sold-out shows, Prism is a must-see live attraction. The band rocks out the hits more energetically than ever, thrilling audiences nationwide.
On Sunday, the musical stage will be replaced by chainsaws and sawdust for Logger Sports. Eliminations begin at 10 a.m.
A Fall Fair parade will once again take place on Saturday, Sept. 7. Marshalling for the parade begins at 9 a.m. on Bute Street. The parade will begin at 11 a.m. sharp and will run along 10th Avenue to the fairgrounds on Alderwood Street.
