Veteran West Coast singer-songwriter Ryan McMahon is embarking on a solo marathon of western Canada, and his first stop will be in Port Alberni.

McMahon is celebrating his 25th anniversary of performing with a tour of western Canada starting in February. He will be starting off at Char's Landing in Port Alberni on Friday, Feb. 7.

"I've been coming to Char's Landing to perform for well over 10 years now," McMahon explained. "I often kick off or wrap up my tours in this community, which has been so supportive of my music."

In his 25 years, McMahon has cultivated a small but very loyal following in his native Canada. He has released nine full-length records, including two with the critically-acclaimed trio Lion Bear Fox, which he co-founded in 2013. His most recent album “Live Now” garnered six singles and Canadian and U.S. satellite radio play, which was followed by two support tours with Canadian legends Burton Cummings (the Guess Who) and Tom Cochrane.

Long scaling the perimeter walls of Canada’s music industry, McMahon has never fit into any one box. He brandishes folk, roots, Americana and contemporary rock songwriting seemingly all at once, while delivering a show where one can expect a deluge of audience interaction, laughter, reflection and tears.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are available online at ryanmcmahon.bpt.me, at the door or by calling or texting Char at 250-730-1636.
