Coastal Restoration Society is planning a salvage sale at the former site of the Somass Sawmill on Harbour Road in Port Alberni.
The company has been salvaging material from the former sawmill site as the City of Port Alberni and Matthews West move forward with designing a mixed-use neighbourhood at the site. Coastal Restoration will put up for sale some of the material it salvaged from the demolition.
Reclaimed building materials will be made available to interested parties over two weeks in early November. Material includes salvaged lumber and metal structures.
The building salvage sale will take place from Tuesday, Nov. 5 to Saturday, Nov. 9 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and again from Tuesday, Nov. 12 to Saturday, Nov. 16 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Site access will be limited to five people at a time. Purchased material must be removed from the site the same day as purchase.
Coastal Restoration Society will offer some forklift assistance if needed.
"All sales are 'as is, where is,'" a spokesperson noted.
Coastal Restoration is a non-profit organization with offices in Port Alberni.
The City of Port Alberni has from the start attempted to salvage what it could from the former sawmill site, offsetting some of the demolition costs with the sale of materials.
