BCHL: Bulldogs victorious for Hockey Day in PA

Dawg Pound has been rocking as Bulldogs vaulted to top of BCHL Division

It was a great Hockey Day in PA for the Alberni Valley Bulldogs. The Junior A B.C. Hockey League team held the Coquitlam Express scoreless until partway through the third period and went on to win 4-1.

The Bulldogs' game concluded an action-packed day of hockey in Port Alberni. Both the Port Alberni Bombers of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League and the Bulldogs played on the same day, which is unusual for their schedules. The Bombers beat visiting Nanaimo Buccaneers 4-1 in their afternoon tilt.

The first period of the Bulldogs' feature game was scoreless. Jesse Allecia put the Bulldogs on the board at 10:01, converting a pass from Juan Copeland. Caden Tremblay scored what would turn out to be the winning goal 1:42 later with assists going to Brady McIsaac and Lenny Greenberg.

The Bulldogs killed a double minor penalty early in the third period after McIsaac picked up four minutes for high-sticking.

Cole Bishop put the Bulldogs up 3-0 at 6:01 of the third period (from Jonathan Wong and Allecia), and Jacob Wingfield with his third of the season gave the home team a comfortable four-goal lead on the power play at 12:54 (from Zeke Nicholson and Tremblay).

The Express's Ryan Staples ruined 'Dogs goalie Colin Winn's shutout at 15:42 (from Trip Pendy and Mitch Kneidel), scoring Coquitlam's lone goal.

Allecia and Tremblay both had two-point games for the Bulldogs and were given first and second stars, respectively. Winn was named the third star and Carl Sandstrom earned FortisBC Energy player of the game.

Heading into last weekend the Bulldogs were on top of the Coastal West Division with 17 points, just one point ahead of Victoria Grizzlies. The Bulldogs played a home-and-home series with Cowichan Valley Capitals Nov. 1 and 2 and won both games.

The 'Dogs are now on the road to the Q Centre in Victoria on Friday, Nov. 8 to face the Victoria Grizzlies and former president David Michaud with his new team. They host Langley Rivermen on Saturday, Nov. 9 at the AV Multiplex. Puck drops at 7 p.m.

The 'Dogs are on the road Nov. 15–16 when they head to Coquitlam and Langley, respectively.

ICE CHIPS...Former Bulldogs' forward Dakota MacIntosh has committed to the University of Alaska-Anchorage. MacIntosh is playing with the Chilliwack Chiefs in the Coastal East Division after arriving with the team last June by way of the Blackfalds Bulldogs...Students at Wood Elementary had a howling Halloween as they hosted the "Boo-dogs" for some pumpkin carving and other spooky fun.
