Bulldogs sweep home-and-home series with Cowichan

The BCHL Bulldogs carry their winning ways into November

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs swept a home-and-home series against Vancouver Island rivals Cowichan Valley Capitals in B.C. Hockey League play Nov. 1-2.

The 'Dogs took the first game 4-2 in Cowichan on goals from Jacob Wingfield, Caden Tremblay, the winner from Zeke Nicholson and an empty net insurance marker from Jesse Allecia.

Coming home on Saturday, Zeke Nicholson scored twice in a 4-1 win. Brady McIsaac and Juan Copeland scored the other markers for the Bulldogs.

The game in the "Dawg Pound" was a chippy affair, with Jacob Wingfield and Garrett Russell trading punches eight minutes into the first period. The fisticuffs earned them both five-minute penalties for fighting as well as misconducts. Nicholson's second goal was scored while the Bulldogs were shorthanded. They held the Caps scoreless on the power play.

A Friday, Nov. 8 game in Victoria ended 3-0 in favour of the Grizzlies, but the Bulldogs bounced back at home with a 3-1 win against the visiting Landley Rivermen. The Bulldogs will host West Kelowna on Wednesday, Nov. 20.

ICE CHIPS...A couple of Alberni Valley Bulldog alumni are excelling in collegiate hockey. Hayden Stavroff scored his first goal for Dartmouth College in a 2-1 win against Harvard...AJ Vasko has three goals and eight assists in his first 10 games as a freshman at Niagara University.
