When Sean Currie first heard he was “going to buy a heat pump company,” he laughed it off. At the time, he had no plan to own a business in the industry, and no idea that a simple conversation with his son would change his life.
Fast forward a year, and Sean and his family are at the helm of Pacific Rim Heat Pumps, a company built on resilience, community and a commitment to helping local homeowners find energy-efficient comfort solutions.
A business born from determination
Pacific Rim Heat Pumps was first founded by Keith and Linda Ghidoni under extraordinary circumstances. At 65, after looking for work here and not finding the right fit, Linda and Keith embarked on creating Pacific Rim Heat Pumps. As a solution, he started his own company, proving that opportunity often comes in unexpected ways.
For almost 15 years, Keith built a strong reputation for quality service, and at 79, he made another bold move: selling the business to Sean and his family.
The transition wasn’t conventional. Sean’s son, who was working for Keith at the time, jokingly asked about the company’s future. Keith’s response? “I’m going to sell it to your parents.” That offhand comment sparked a conversation that turned into reality.
“At first, I completely discredited it,” Sean admits. “I didn’t know the first thing about heat pumps. But the more we talked about it, the more we saw opportunities.”
Building a family-led future
Today, Pacific Rim Heat Pumps remains a family-run business. Sean’s wife manages the books, his eldest son Bailey is an Automotive Service Technician looking after their fleet of vehicles to keep the team on the road. Sean’s second son Brady works as their sales consultants while his daughter Danika is their warranty clerk.
Under the leadership of a new family name. Pacific Rim Heat Pumps continues to offer expert services in both ducted and ductless heat pumps and recently expanded into gas furnaces. “We want to be a full-service company that homeowners can trust,” Sean says.
Keith, despite stepping away from ownership, remains a valued mentor. “He still comes to staff luncheons, and we’re even discussing bringing him back in a mentorship role,” Sean shares. “His passion is contagious.”
