In 2017, when Sears' closure in Port Alberni left a vacant building, Jon Lauener saw an opportunity to transform the space into a hub for Pacific West Home Solutions.

The result is Pacific West Home Solutions, today offering a full range of services including appliances and flooring offered by United Floors.

“We started with flooring but expanded into appliances when Sears closed. We had a chance to do something unique here,” Lauener says.

Pacific West is both an appliance store and an appliance service provider. “We have our own appliance service department, which is unique in Port Alberni. If there’s an issue with an appliance you bought from us, we prioritize your service. We respond to our clients in a timely manner,” he says.

This commitment to customer care is rooted in the company’s operations, offering repairs, installations and warranty work, including a wide range of refurbished appliances, making essential home equipment more affordable and accessible. .

The business also caters to a broad geographic area, handling deliveries in Port Alberni, Ucluelet, and Tofino. “At Pacific, we offer maintenance for brands like LG, GE, KitchenAid and more.” he adds.

What makes Pacific West stand out in the market, besides its integrated service department, is its role as a community-focused family business.

“It’s our motivation to serve the community. I’ve been in the business with my family since I was eight years old,” Lauener says.

As for the products, Pacific West offers a wide range, from necessities like washing machines and dryers to high-demand kitchen appliances. “Appliances are a necessity; we sell a lot of fridges.”

Promotions are a monthly occurrence at Pacific West, with events like their 'Boxing Week in July' for brands like Whirlpool and KitchenAid coming up – the chance to enjoy considerable savings, sometimes up to $1,000 off.

From the start, Lauener is committed to   “to serving the community. Every day I’m learning, trying to be better at what I do,” he says, noting current goals include working to enhance current services.

“We're all living locally here. I want to thank the community for the support they have given us,” he adds.
