Port Alberni city council got a formal introduction to the Valley’s newest pediatrician.

West Coast General Hospital site administrator Ellen Brown introduced Doctor Kofi Affram to mayor and council at their March 24 meeting.

The married father of three joins Dr. Chris McCollister and Dr. Rhiannon Hughes in the hospital’s pediatric department.

“This is still all very new to me. This is very special. I’ve never had this before,” said Affram after being presented with a gift from councillors.

Affram worked as a doctor in London, England, as well as in Ghana prior to coming to Port Alberni.

A friend of local doctor Kennedy Fadey, Affram was familiar with Port Alberni before he arrived.

He’d expressed an interest in moving to Canada and had incentive to work in Port Alberni, Brown said.

“We’re happy that he wanted to work in Canada. We were lucky to get him and are happy to have him,” Brown said.
