Five volunteer salmon stewardship groups in the Port Alberni area received grants from the Pacific Salmon Foundation this year.
The Alberni Valley Enhancement Association received $5,700 to improve conditions for growing fish.
The association also received $24,150 to return a natural river channel by the Mclean Mill Dam to its original course.
Alberni Valley Salmon Enhancement Society received $5,150 to purchase maintenance materials for their fish counting area.
The second project was granted $4,900 to rehabilitate two urban streams that run through Port Alberni
And School District 70 (Alberni) received $ 1,500 to facilitate student visits to Robertson Creek Hatchery and provide transportation for the Gently Down the Creek Program.
Additional funds were raised at a special fundraising dinner on Nov. 3.
