Alberni man pleads guilty to sex crime with minor

Alberni resident Shawn Pater, 33, pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault and is now awaiting sentencing.

A Port Alberni man is awaiting sentencing after he pleaded guilty to one count of sexual interference with a girl under age 16.

Shawn Pater, 33, entered the plea before Judge Eldon Iverson in Port Alberni Provincial Court on Wednesday, provincial prosecutor Gordon Baines said.

The offences occurred between August 2010 and January 2011.

Pater was released from prison Wednesday on a $2,500 surety. Iverson ordered that Pater undergo a forensic assessment and that a pre-sentence report be written before he appears for sentencing in approximately six to eight weeks, Baines said.

Pater was sentenced to six months in prison in January for a separate case involving sexual interference with a girl under the age of 16.
